  • 35.00 hours/week
  • Monday – Friday 8:30 am – 4:30 pm
  • Salary Range: $27.91 – $39.34 per hour ($50,796.20 – $71,598.80 per annum)

 

Ideal Candidate:

  • PREFERENCE WILL BE GIVEN TO INDIGENOUS CANDIDATES.

MINIMUM FORMAL EDUCATION/TRAINING:

  • A Post-secondary diploma or degree with a strong focus on Indigenous subjects and content is required.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Two years of directly related experience working in a complex environment (coordinating projects, event planning, and/or community engagement) is required.
  • Directly related administrative experience is required.
  • Experience working with community-based organizations who are involved in education, public programming and outreach is required.
  • Accounting experience or experience with budget forecasting, managing and reconciling is required.
  • Experience working with Indigenous organizations, peoples, Elders, and communities is essential.
  • An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Must have an understanding of Indigenous communities, governments and organizations.
  • Must have excellent English oral and written communication skills.
  • Must have knowledge of MS Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Must have excellent organizational skills and be detail oriented.
  • Good organizational and management skills required.
  • Must be able to adapt to a cross-cultural setting.
  • Must be conscientious, professional, responsible and reliable.
  • Must exhibit comfort, ease, and excellent judgment working at a senior level with internal and external communities.
  • Ability to work with Residential School Survivors and their families is required.
  • Must have the ability to apply a trauma-informed approach with previous experience/training required.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise, and train support staff and contractors is required.
  • Must have the knowledge and ability required to research and develop presentations, workshops, and other public programming materials.
  • An ability to learn in-house University software systems is essential.
  • Must be able to perform tasks with independence, diplomacy, self-motivation, confidentiality, and the ability to work with many types of individuals in a sensitive environment.
  • Ability to adapt to changing environments and circumstances.
  • May be required to work over-time as needed, some travel may be required.
  • Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.

OTHER JOB RELATED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Cultural sensitivity; open-mindedness; flexibility.
  • Ability to speak French – the position will need to communication at an intermediate level.
  • Ability to speak an Indigenous language preferred. – Strong relationship with Indigenous communities.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Assists Supervisor to organize all activities and details related to special projects.
  • Drafts or amends proposals as needed under the direction of the Supervisor.
  • Assists in the drafting educational programs including determining key dates, core activities, and potential partners for approval.
  • Coordinates the development of educational resources for distribution.
  • Coordinates with units as necessary for project development, coordination, and implementation.
  • Collaborates with units to assist in the development of promotional plans for education initiatives.
  • Assists in the development of promotional materials in support of education.
  • Develops and delivers public programming and workshops tailored to the specific needs/requests of the audience.
  • Coordinates and trains support for program initiatives.
  • Assists the Supervisor in managing education and engagement staff (students/presenters/researchers).
  • Handle enquiries from staff, students, and public on education activities.
  • Provide tours, presentations, and information to visitors on Centre activities and artefacts in both English and French
  • Organize special functions and activities including booking and catering for events.
  • Prepare standing orders, printing, and purchasing requests.
  • Make travel and accommodation arrangements for Supervisor and process travel claims.
  • Reports on the progress of education unit and outreach/engagements activities
  • Represent the NCTR in meetings with funders or potential funders.
  • Reports back to funders under the advisement of the Supervisor.
  • Forecasts, reconciles, and reports on project budgets.
  • Assists and supports the Supervisor of Education on the development, coordination, and planning of community engagements.
  • Assists Supervisor to organize activities and details related to community engagements.
  • Collaborates with appropriate units to plan and ensure objectives of engagements are met.
  • Collaborates with communications on the development of outreach materials.
  • Communicates with local partners to support community engagements.
  • Coordinates and recommends local facilitators for larger community engagement sessions.
  • Works with external contractors to advise and coordinate on community engagement logistics, plans, and budget.
  • Assists the Supervisor in supervision of support staff, contractors, and students.
  • Identifies and requests quotes for translations.

About the role:

Scholars of Steinbach is seeking a passionate and enthusiastic part-time French, high school math/science teachers and tutors to join our team.

As a tutor at Scholars, you will have the opportunity to positively impact students, both personally and academically. We take pride in delivering results that matter to all of our students, and our tutors play a key role in this journey.

The successful candidate will be trained on Scholars’ teaching methodology. Candidates must be confident teaching high school concepts up to grade 12.

Pay Range: $17.00-$22.00/hour depending on qualifications

Candidates must be able to work a minimum of two shifts per week within our hours of operation below.

  • Monday – Thursday, 3:00 – 8:00 pm
  • Saturdays, 9:00 am – 2:00 pm

  • Certified teachers, candidates in the faculty of education or working towards other designations are encouraged to apply.
  • Previous experience working with students is an asset.
  • Excellent English oral and written skills.
  • A passion to help students reach their potential.
  • Exceptionally organized and high attention to detail.
  • Ability to teach groups of up to 3 students.
  • Must be able to teach French or math or science up to grade 12, including the following subjects: Advanced Functions, Calculus and Vectors, Data Management, Physics, Biology, and Chemistry.
